Does your job involve operating the kind of vehicle that would have blown your mind as a kid? Bring it to Touch-a-Truck!
SEDCOR and the City of Independence are teaming up to host Touch-a-Truck, a free community event that highlights the incredible vehicles—and the people behind them—that keep our region moving.
This annual event gives kids and their families the chance to explore big rigs, heavy equipment, emergency vehicles, and other unique machinery up close. They can climb into driver seats, honk horns, and meet the professionals who operate these impressive machines every day.
For participating businesses and agencies, it’s a fun and meaningful way to:
You’ll also be helping inspire the next generation of workers along the way.
Participating organizations are welcome to bring marketing materials and information to hand out. Stickers are especially popular - kids will collect them to “decorate their own hard hat” during the event.
📅 Saturday, May 9
🕘 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (8am Set-up)
📌Riverview Park, Independence
👥 Expected attendance: 2,000–2,500 people
Participation is free, but vehicles must be registered and approved through the event registration process before the April 30 deadline.
Vehicles and equipment don’t need to be new, but we do ask that they be reasonably clean since kids will be touching them and climbing into driver seats. We also recommend having at least one staff member present (often the equipment operator) to answer questions and help supervise the vehicle during the event.
Bring your equipment, meet the community, and help create a day kids will remember.
FREE for Vehicles to Participate
FREE for the Community to Attend
